A Wonderful World is a musical journey through the life of jazz icon Louis Armstrong, named after his beloved 1967 hit. Originally conceived in 2019, the musical faced production challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with its world premiere finally taking place in Miami in December 2021. Tony Award-winner James Monroe Iglehart, renowned for his role in Disney's Aladdin, will bring Louis Armstrong to life on stage. The musical, with a book by Aurin Squire and conceived by Christopher Renshaw and Andrew Delaplaine, is a vibrant celebration of Armstrong's music and life.

Storyline

A Wonderful World shines a spotlight on the women who shared Louis Armstrong's life. Through their eyes, we witness the evolution of a musical genius. From Daisy Parker, the fiery woman who married Armstrong as a teenager, to Lil Hardin, the pianist who mentored him musically, each wife contributes a unique perspective to the story. Alpha Smith, an ambitious woman, adds another layer to understanding Armstrong's life. And finally, Lucille Wilson, the supportive partner who helped solidify Armstrong's global stardom, completes this ensemble of extraordinary women. Their stories intertwine with Armstrong's, offering a rich portrait of the jazz legend.
