SIX: The Musical finds a new royal line, welcoming a whole new cast of queens

Akanksha Panicker

The 23-time Tony Award-winning sensation, SIX the Musical, is set to overthrow the royal line with a fresh set of our favorite queens at the Lena Horne Theatre on February 19, 2025.

Six the Musical revolutionizes how history, popular music, and women's empowerment are combined. This spectacular musical reimagines the six wives of Henry VIII as a raucous pop performance, with scripts by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss. The songs each queen sings share a plot that draws inspiration from contemporary music giants such as Beyoncé, Adele, and Ariana Grande.

SIX, which had its humble beginnings as a student performance at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, has now become a Broadway, Australian, and London hit. With a new parade of royals, the new cast of SIX will definitely see some heads roll.

In 2022, the musical took home two Tonys for Best Original Score and Best Costume Design, and it was nominated for a Grammy for Best Original Broadway Cast Recording. Quite a list of accomplishments, really. The show has received rave reviews from critics throughout the world, including Olivier Awards and Drama Desk accolades, and it continues to draw in new audiences with enthusiastic attendees.

Queens with voices more golden than their crowns

With their own set of achievements, the newly revealed ensemble of emerging talents and seasoned performers brings a plethora of laurels to the throne. Najah Hetsberger's strong voice and dominating stage presence captivated viewers in Romeo and Juliet, where she played Catherine of Aragon. Gianna Yanelli, who played Anne Boleyn, was a standout in the original cast of Mean Girls, a hit with Broadway audiences.

One of the most impressive contestants on The Voice, Kelsie Watts (Jane Seymour), has become famous for her powerful, heartfelt singing, which is ideal for the profoundly affecting "Heart of Stone." A devoted fan base has grown up around her duets on social media using Broadway favorites.

Krystal Hernandez is a repeat royal. After a performance as Anna of Cleves in the Toronto adaptation of SIX, she will be reprising her role as the spunky sovereign. Kay Sibal, another former contestant on The Voice, will accentuate Katherine Howard's dramatic storyline with her seductive presence and smoky voice. The sextet is completed by the veteran actress Taylor Marie Daniel, who plays the role of Catherine Parr, the wife who survived.

In addition to being co-directed by Moss and Jamie Armitage, the internationally acclaimed musical by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss additionally features choreography by Carrie-Anne Ingrouille, scenic design by Emma Bailey, costume design by Gabriella Slade, lighting design by Tim Deiling, and sound design by Paul Gatehouse.

Succeeding Adrianna Hicks, Storm Lever, Aubrey Matalon, Olivia Donalson, Didi Romero, and Gabriela Carrillo, the new batch of queens will step into their shoes. February 9 is Romero's last performance, and the remaining cast members will leave the show on February 17.

Centered around the Tudor queens' terrible marriages to King Henry VIII, SIX is a cross between a history textbook and the girl-power of the Spice Girls. The queens get to talk about their lives apart from Henry and compete to discover who had the worst time with the guillotine-happy monarch.
