Buena Vista Social Club isn’t just a musical—it’s a rhythm-fueled journey through Havana’s past, set to the iconic sounds of the legendary ensemble. With a book by Marco Ramirez and a score packed with the irresistible beats of Son, Danzón, and Bolero, this show brings Cuba’s musical legacy to life like never before.
Spanning from the 1950s to the 1990s, the story follows four musicians as they navigate the sweeping changes of Fidel Castro’s Cuba, their struggles under communism, and the extraordinary moment in 1997 when they came together to create the GRAMMY®-winning Buena Vista Social Club album. And yes—the music is performed entirely in Spanish, adding to its authenticity and soul-stirring power.
After a celebrated Off-Broadway run, where it racked up nominations for Outer Critics Circle, Lucille Lortel, and Drama League Awards, Buena Vista Social Club has now arrived on Broadway at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre. Under the direction of Tony nominee Saheem Ali and choreography by Patricia Delgado & Justin Peck, this is a show pulses with passion, and sizzling Cuban beats.

The Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre (originally the Plymouth) has been setting the stage for Broadway magic since 1917, when the Shuberts built it alongside the Broadhurst. Producer Arthur M. Hopkins made the most of its early years, turning it into a hotspot for hit productions. In 2005, the theatre was renamed to honor the late Gerald Schoenfeld, the longtime chairman of the Shubert Organization. Designed by Herbert Krapp as his first solo project, the Schoenfeld Theatre features refined Adamsesque detailing—echoing the grandeur of its slightly more ornate neighbors, the Booth and the Shubert. Classic, stylish, and steeped in Broadway history, this playhouse is a showstopper in its own right.
Over the decades, the Schoenfeld Theatre has hosted some of Broadway’s most iconic productions, including Equus, Pippin, Ain’t Misbehavin’, Jekyll & Hyde, A Steady Rain, The Humans, Come From Away, Take Me Out, and Life of Pi. Now, it welcomes Buena Vista Social Club to its legendary stage.
