It is a story set in 1934 Minnesota, at a time when America was in the clutches of the Great Depression. This is Broadway’s second show to have used music by Bob Dylan and features some of his beloved hits, such as “Forever Young” and ”Hurricane”, among others.
Bob Dylan’s music has been the backdrop for revolutionary growth in the music industry, and he is popularly regarded today, as one of the greatest songwriters of history. Coupled with his soulful music, the writing and direction of the renowned playwright Conor McPherson weave an uplifting tale of growth and togetherness through hard times.
Set in Duluth, Minnesota, the play takes place in the winter of 1934. The story is narrated by the family physician, Dr. Walker, who is privy to the Laines’ seemingly unending list of problems. At a time when no one has been spared from the economic perils of America’s Great Depression, the Laine family struggles to keep their business afloat while navigating a slew of hurdles in their personal lives.
Whether it’s hysteric episodes and jilted hearts, or dire prospects and a mysterious pregnancy– the Laine family has enough on their hands without worrying about what may be in store for them next. But everything changes when late one night, a storm carries two weary travelers to their door.

Upon relinquishing his 42nd St theater a few years afterward, David Belasco immediately renamed the Stuyvesant the Belasco.
