The American Airlines Theatre was built in 1918 by producers (and brothers) Arch and Edgar Selwyn and was originally named The Selwyn Theatre. Due to the economic woes of the Great Depression, it became a movie house in the 1930s. It was a movie theatre for almost 70 years until it was purchased by the Roundabout Theatre Company in the late 1990s. After an expensive overhaul, it reopened as The American Airlines Theatre in 2000. Known for its classic play revivals, this theatre is a unique blend of modern technology and historic design.
