Gutenberg bows out on a high | Hits highest gross of entire run

The Andrew Rannells and Josh Gad-starrer was all set to bow out humbly on January 28 but instead went out with a bang.

Gutenberg! The Musical! opened off-Broadway in 2006 before making its way to Broadway in 2023. Though a limited run, the Broadway production proved to be a huge hit drawing in audiences steadily throughout its run. While there are plenty of reasons why the show is a favorite among both fans and critics, the undeniable chemistry and unparalleled comedic timing of its stars are certainly major ones. Unsurprisingly, Rannells and Gad are hardly strangers: the duo previously co-starred in The Book of Mormon, another show that recently broke records and made history.

The dimming light shines the brightest

Gutenberg! The Musical! opened at the James Earl Jones Theatre. It was widely known for its remarkably extensive list of cameos from notable names as Billy Crystal, Lin-Manuel Miranda, John Stamos, Josh Groban, Cynthia Erivo, Jonathan Groff, Zachary Levi, Vanessa Williams, Steve Martin, Patti LuPone, Sara Bareilles, Kristin ChenowethIdina Menzel, Jake Gyllenhaal, Will Ferrell, "Weird Al" Yankovic, Brooke Shields, Lance Bass, Kerry Washington, Anna Wintour, Anne Hathaway, Ariana DeBose, and many, many more. Its success on Broadway was hardly a surprise, but with the show's earnings of $1.46 million on its final night, it has successfully recouped its initial investment of $6.75 million.

While Gutenberg! The Musical! has sadly ended its run, Rannells and Gad have already jumped right back into their roles for a soon-to-be-released Original Broadway Cast Album, expected to release this coming spring.

Stay tuned for Andrew Rannells and Josh Gad's return to Broadway in coming seasons
