The Tony Awards make their grand return for a 77th turn. Here's everything you need to know about the event.
The Antoinette Perry Award for Excellence in Broadway Theatre, or Tony Award for short, is an event to celebrate major achievements in American theater. The 77th round will include nominations from all eligible Broadway productions in the 2023-24 season.
Winning a Tony Award is a major milestone for any production or performer. It is a recognition of skill and dedication to the craft and points to a show's caliber. Hamilton (2016) currently holds the record for most nominations ever received by a single production, surpassing The Producers (2001) which has held its title of the single production with the most wins.
The ceremony will take place on 16 June.
The awards will be presented at the David H. Koch Theater in the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.
It will be broadcast live on CBS.
Tony nominee Ariana DeBose returns to host the ceremony for a third time. She joins a short list of three-time hosts that includes Angela Lansbury and Hugh Jackman.
The list of nominees will be released on 30 April. Fans and critics have already begun naming some of their predictions, including Suffs, Days of Wine and Roses, and The Notebook for Best Musical, as well as Merrily We Roll Along, Cabaret, and Gutenberg! the Musical! for Best Musical Revival, among others.
The cutoff date for eligibility is 25 April and plenty of highly-anticipated shows open between now and then. This list includes Lempicka, The Great Gatsby, Hell's Kitchen, Water for Elephants, and many more, all of which are just as likely to earn nominations at the upcoming show.
