Water For Elephants makes a splash with promising preview showings

Jenifer

The circus-themed musical was a new addition to the President's Day holiday lineup and managed to fill 94% of the seats at the Imperial Theatre.

Water for Elephants tells the tale of a man reminiscing on his youth, an era of adventure and heartbreak, of showbiz and romance. The musical is based on a 2006 novel by Sara Gruen, which was previously adapted into a 2011 film starring Robert Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon. The musical stars Grant Gustin and Isabelle McCalla in the same roles, respectively.

The elephant in the room

Despite being a newcomer on the block, with its premiere scheduled for March 21, 2024, Water for Elephants managed to fill 94% of the seats at the Imperial Theatre for its two preview shows. Its fellow shows saw some dips in returns, but Water for Elephants held firmly to its promising early showings, indicating an even better run to follow.

With a budget of $25 million behind it, making it the most expensive production of the season, it's no wonder the hype for this musical is as high as it is. Paired with remarkable technical feats in lighting, design, projections, puppetry, and more, it is bound to make quite the splash in the coming months.
