The show is a political satire. While it is not a direct parody of any one president, it does take inspiration from the absurdity of the real-life White House.
The show is written by a woman (Selina Fillinger) and stars women, which is intentional. Show makers wanted to give voice to women who are often left out of political satires. They also wanted to highlight the importance of the women who are working to keep our leaders alive and functioning. This season, book POTUS tickets to get into the White House that is presided (as a director) by five-time Tony winner, Susan Stroman.
