The Book of Mormon has surpassed The Jersey Boys to take its place as the 12th-longest-running show in Broadway history. It is now also the longest-running show at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre.
Religious satire is often a precarious endeavor. But if there is one thing the Book of Mormon has proven, it’s that a good story, a good production team, and a stellar cast can break new ground and go where few have gone before. The show’s success has afforded it a brand new title as the 12th-longest-running show in Broadway history, surpassing the equally acclaimed Jersey Boys. The record also makes it the longest-running show at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre which has remained in operation for nearly 100 years.
The award-winning The Book of Mormon is a satirical tale of two bright-eyed Mormons who embark on a mission to spread the word of God in Uganda. They soon learn, however, that the word of God isn’t quite as in demand outside the comfort of their humble abode at home.
The show is the collective effort of a team of brilliant creators, including South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, Frozen composer Robert Lopez, and choreographer and co-director Casey Nicholaw.
