Lillias White to bid adieu to Hermes in final performance for Hadestown

Jenifer

Tony Award-winner Lillias White, Hadestown's Hermes, who began her stint in the role on September 13, 2022, has announced her final performance in the musical will be on March 17.

White, a stalwart on the Broadway scene, is the first female-identifying actor to play the role of Hermes. She took over at the Walter Kerr Theatre from fellow Tony Award winner André De Shields and has earned rave reviews for her interpretation of the musical's beloved narrator. Before her electrifying run as Hermes, White starred as Matron “Mama” Morton in the Chicago revival. She has also delivered stellar performances in multiple award-winning and audience-favorite shows on Broadway. Her works include The Life, Fela!, Dreamgirls, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and Cats, among many others.

Onward to new frontiers

With multiple awards for her work on and off Broadway under her belt, White has showcased her versatility time and time again. Her career has crossed barriers and boundaries, ranging from understudying the original Effie in 1981's Dreamgirls to vocals on Madonna's 1990 track "Rescue Me." Her career only continues to diversify, with an upcoming role in the sci-fi film Heartworm, a drama rooted in grief, familial bonds, and navigating a modern post-pandemic world.
